BJSO thrilled to welcome guest conductor, Dr. Alexander Man

Dr. Alexander Mandl, conductor of Milwaukee Musaik Chamber Orchestra, is a dynamic conductor, violinist, soloist, educator, and chamber musician whose career spans international

stages. He has appeared in prestigious venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Auditório Manuel de Falla in Spain, and Alsion in Denmark. Renowned for his energetic and inspiring

leadership, Mandl has conducted ensembles ranging from chamber groups to full symphonic and operatic forces, collaborating with musicians from the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, and South Denmark Symphony, among others. He currently serves as Music Director of the Menomonee Falls Symphony, the Medical College of Wisconsin Orchestra, and continues to appear as guest conductor with international ensembles. Highlights include the South American premiere of Ezra Laderman’s Nonete, opera productions of Krasa’s Brundibar and Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, and the world premiere of Christian Ellenwood’s refulgence honoring Milwaukee Musaik’s 50th anniversary.


Also an accomplished violinist, Mandl is a member of the acclaimed Philomusica Quartet and

serves as concertmaster of the Kenosha and Racine Symphonies. He teaches at UW-Parkside,

Wisconsin Lutheran College, and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. A graduate of Yale

University, Carnegie-Mellon, and UW-Madison, Dr. Mandl studied conducting with Eleazar de

Carvalho, David Becker, James Smith, and Jorge Mester. His awards include the Yale Alumni

Award, the Carnegie Tradition Award, the Miles Prize, and the Ivan Galamian Award. Married to

Milwaukee Symphony Associate Concertmaster Jeanyi Kim, he balances his active musical

career with family life and enjoys sailing, biking, hiking, and time spent in local coffee shops.
