Dr. Robert Tomaro,
Music Director & Conductor
Robert Tomaro is fast gaining a reputation for his electrifying and innovative performances in the international arena of symphonic conducting and composition.
His credits include concerts and CD recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Orchestra, the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra of Poland, the Black Sea Philharmonic of Rumania, the Hayes Symphony in London, and the Fairbanks Symphony in Alaska. He has toured extensively throughout Scandinavia, England, France, Poland, Rumania, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Dr. Tomaro served as Director of Music of the Elysian Symphony in New Jersey and Director of Music of the County College of Morris Symphony Orchestra before being appointed as Director of Music for the Beloit Janesville Symphony and Professor of Music at Beloit College.
A graduate of Northwestern University and New York University, he received a Ph.D. in composition while he was Director of Music of the New York University Symphony Orchestra. He subsequently served on the faculties of St. John's University in New York and Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Dr. Tomaro is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Kappa Lambda, the national honor societies in education and music education, and a winner of the New Jersey Council on the Arts Fellowship Award for Symphonic Composition. He was also honored by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for conducting the recording of the Emmy Award winning score for the Los Angeles Marathon and in 2002 he was one of only eight conductors chosen to study with world renowned conductor, Christoph Eschenbach.
His articles on music and contemporary composers have been published in The Groves Dictionary of Music in London, The Journal of New Music Research in the Netherlands and several domestic periodicals such as Band and Orchestra Magazine and The Instrumentalist.
Dr. Tomaro is a jazz guitarist as well as a conductor. He has performed extensively, both domestically and abroad, with his own ensemble, The Robert Tomaro Quintet, and with several touring ensembles. He has appeared in concert with artists such as Bill Evans, Stephane Grapelli, and Charles Mingus and performed in the orchestras of the original Broadway productions of numerous shows, including The Lion King, Tommy, Barnum, Les Miserables, Evita, Dancin', and I Love My Wife.
