For Orchestra Members

Letter to Players from Sue Zelle
UPDATED JULY 11, 2008

Dear Orchestra Members,

Many thanks to everyone who participated in our July concert series. The weather was beautiful and the concerts were extremely well attended at both venues. These are our most visible performances, and our organization was well represented by the players that were available for this series. We really appreciate all of you taking time from your busy summers for these events.

Looking toward fall and our 2008-2009 concert season…

There have been a few changes to our repertoire for the upcoming season, which are all available on our website, HYPERLINK "http://www.beloitjanesvillesymphony.org" www.beloitjanesvillesymphony.org. Due to the timetable of spring concerts and the difficulty of the Shostakovich Symphony 5, we have rescheduled that work for October, and music will be sent out this summer to allow more time for preparation. In its place in March, we will perform Dvorak’s Symphony 7. February’s concert will be the performance of the orchestral score to ‘Wings’, a silent film that will be presented as part of the Beloit International Film Festival. In April, we will be performing our Saturday night concert of the Verdi Requiem in Kenosha. The Beloit Janesville Symphony Chorus under the direction of Susan Rice will perform in conjunction with the UW-Parkside chorus. We are still working out details, but transportation will be provided for this venture.

Letters confirming services for the season are being sent out this month. Please note that if you become unavailable for any of these services you will need to let me know as soon as possible, but no less than 30 days before the first rehearsal.

Auditions for the upcoming season are going to be held on Tuesday August 26. These are for principal and 4th horn, section strings, and wind/percussion sub lists. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please let them know that they can either contact me or call the office at 608-313-1200 to schedule an audition time.

Staffing updates…

We want to welcome Lara Bailly to our symphony staff as music librarian and assistant to Rob. Diana Benti has retired from these duties as of June 30th, but will continue to play in the viola section. Belliar Ortega, who jumped in mid-season last year and took on the responsibilities of stage manager, will now serve as our production coordinator. Leticia Carrasco and Kayla Merriman will be staffing the office Monday-Friday from 10:00-3:00 and will be handling many of the administrative responsibilities.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall as we prepare for another exciting season! As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
