2008-2009 Regular Season Performances

The Magnificent Emperor
The October concert includes Russian flare, German romanticism, and two piano concertos. The program features the virtuosic elegance of pianist Ian Nie performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 in d minor, the Tragic Overture, op 81, by Johannes Brahms and the Third Movement of Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1, with student competition winner Patricia Lee.

¡Sinfonia Caliente!
In November, ¡Sinfonia Caliente! heats up the autumn as the wonderful guitarist Matthew Bishop enthralls the audience with his performance of Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Spanish compatriot Manuel de Falla adds energia with El Sombrero de Tres Picos (The Three-Cornered Hat). Mexican composer Carlos Chavez’s Sinfonia India and Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2 will delight

The Eternal Messiah
In December, the Beloit Janesville Symphony will dazzle once again with the seasonal classic George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. This year’s soloists will include soprano Lyssandra Walsh, countertenor Tim Lilly, tenor James Kryshak, and bass Ken Church.

Jian Wang- Cello Virtuoso
The March program features the technical and lyrical finesse of cellist Jian Wang, an internationally known and highly regarded concert soloist, performing Cello Concerto in D Major by Édouard Lalo. Also included in the concert are Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7 in d minor and Tod und Verklärung (Death and Transfiguration), a tone poem for large orchestra by Richard Strauss.

Verdi's Requiem
In April, the Beloit Janesville Symphony with the University of Wisconsin Parkside chorus and the Beloit College Masterworks Chorus perform Guiseppe Verdi’s Requiem. This features two soloists from UW Parkside, Amy Boutersie and Allison Hull, as well as Beloit Janesville’s own Ken Church and James Kryshak and 170 glorious voices. This masterpiece is a wonderful end to a fabulous season.
